Chapter Philanthropy
As of 2021, our National Philanthropy is now focused on Mental Health Awareness. Fraternity President Gail Owen said it best: “We hope to trailblaze a clear path for our members to effectively care for their own mental health and well-being while also contributing to the mental health and well-being of others — a virtuous cycle to support one another that fulfills our mission and upholds our values." As a unique way for each chapter to have a focus on mental health, HQ has allowed us to pick an organization to donate to, which for Delta Lambda, is the JED Foundation. The JED Foundation is a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for the nation’s teens and young adults. To raise money for the JED Foundation we host Kappa Klassic in the fall, which is a big golf tournament that people across campus participate in. Kappas are the participants' caddies for the morning.
Delta Lambda's local philanthropy is OMA, which stands for Opening Minds Through Art. We send a group of about a dozen girls to an elderly home where they paint and hang out with elders for an hour. Incredible relationships are formed and studies have shown how art alleviates some of the symptoms of dementia. It is a great experience that our sisters love to participate in!
